Club Nuevo Leon en San Antonio is a non-profit organization headquartered in San Antonio, TX . It was founded on May 4 th 1996 by Arq.Refugio Luis Barragan with the goal to help fellow countrymen in less developed and unprotected areas of Mexico to live a better life.

Our mission is to promote opportunities and to provide humanitarian aid to endangered people in the state of Nuevo Leon Mexico. We are a group of people like you willing to give a little bit of our time and enthusiasm to better the quality of life for less fortunate Mexican citizens.

Currently, our main efforts are in searching for used medical equipment in the US for a second life usage in Nuevo Leon 's poorer towns. (Medical supplements, wheel chairs, hospital beds, and X-ray equipment, among others) Our enthusiasm and hard work has let us succeed in providing an urgently needed X-ray machine for the “Centro de Salud” hospital in Bustamante, N.L.

It has also allowed us to help obtain an otherwise impossible to reach medical procedure for Santiago Netro, a young boy from Sabinas Hidalgo, NL to correct deformities in both of his feet in a Shriners Hospitals for Children in Houston, TX; now Santiago can walk like the rest of the children.

As in the case of Santiago , we help find low cost/no cost specialized medical care opportunities in the US for ill Mexican citizens that otherwise would not be treated.

We have also performed fundraising campaigns in the US to aid in disaster areas in Mexico . One such effort allowed us to provide cash donations for families whose members perished in the floods of Nueva Rosita Coahuila in 2003.

Actions like the above, represent our effort to become the bridge between the Mexican community living in the US and Mexican social organizations and/or people in less developed parts of our mother country. We believe we can still help even though we are not in Mexico .

Every year more and more people that share our mission and realize the potential of a group like ours can have an impact in a community or a family in Mexico .

While we work together accomplishing these small but very meaningful goals, we also provide the Mexican community living in the US with a support network that share

the Mexican culture. We do this through participation in national celebrations along with fundraising activities that allow us to reach our goals and also enjoy our traditions and roots. (e.g. trips to Mexico , food selling activities, festival participations, etc.)

Described are just a few examples of the type of activities that we do at Club Nuevo Leon en San Antonio . Whether your are a Mexican citizen, Hispanic, US national, resident of another country with a sympathy for the Mexican culture or a donor, we must assure you that your time, effort and resources dedicated to this humble cause really have a direct impact on the well being, opportunity and future of people that were not as fortunate as others.
